GUITAR
OF MUSIC GREATS JIMI HENDRIX AND FRANK ZAPPA
OFFERED AT "MOTORS AND MUSIC" AS WELL AS A ROLLS ROYCE
AND ASTON MARTIN FROM MEMBERS OF THE ZAPPA FAMILY
Legendary Hendrix/Zappa Stratocaster Headlines Collection Of Rock
'N' Roll Memorabilia At Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas - May 31-June
2
SAN JOSE, Calif. (April 25, 2002) - eBay Motors will offer Rock
'N' Roll collectors one of the most historically significant musical
instruments of the modern era when the guitar owned by Jimi Hendrix
and Frank Zappa, goes on the auction block at "Motors and Music,"
May 31-June 2, 2002. The three-day entertainment event produced
by Kruse International, the world's largest collector car sales
organization and an eBay company, includes a live collector car
auction, live music music memorabilia auction, auto memorabilia
auction, and concert by the Robert Cray Band at the Mandalay Bay
Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
The Hendrix/Zappa 1967 Fender Stratocaster guitar recently came
under the spotlight when Dweezil Zappa, son of '60s rocker Frank
Zappa, was asked to loan his customized 1980 Aston Martin Volante
Roadster and his famous father's 1973 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow
to a Rock 'N" Roll exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum
in Los Angeles. The younger Zappa also offered museum organizers
an unexpected surprise - a legendary guitar originally owned by
Jimi Hendrix and set on fire by the great guitarist at the 1968
Miami Pop Festival. Both the Aston Martin and Rolls Royce as well
as the guitar will go on the block at the event.
Following Hendrix's historic Miami performance, the guitar was
given to Frank Zappa who restored it and used it extensively during
the 1970s. In the 1980s, son Dweezil found it under a staircase
in the Zappa home. He restored the guitar and today it sports a
new neck and new pick guard, but evidence of the flames from the
famous Miami performance is still visible on the guitar body.
"This guitar has such a unique history. Both previous owners
were legendary and influential in their own right. As a historical
musical artifact, this instrument is in a category by itself,"says
Dweezil Zappa. "This event provides a rare opportunity for
rock enthusiasts and fans to purchase icons of rock music including
this guitar."
More than 400 vehicles, along with a selection of rock 'n' roll
cars, famous guitars and other music memorabilia items are expected
to be sold when the "Motors and Music" auction officially
opens Friday, May 31 at Noon and at 10:00 am Saturday and Sunday,
concluding at 6:00 each day. General admission tickets for the auction
are $15.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. The bidder registration
fee is $100.00 and there is a 6% buyer's premium on cars, a 15%
buyer's premium on memorabilia.
A invite only VIP cocktail reception will also be held on Thursday,
May 30 at Mandalay Bay featuring a memorabilia auction beneffitting
kidscharities.Org. Former Partridge Family star, David Cassidy,
who has just completed a new album titled "Then and Now"
will be celebrity auctioneer at the charity event.
"Motors and Music" will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events
